Wednesday celldump #1

Posted on 14 Jul ’10 by Nikki Murray

Occasionally, I’ll open my iPhone’s camera library and discover I have about 60-80 photos that I never did anything with. They eventually get downloaded to my Macbook, but I usually only post about one of every five that I shoot. The neglect is often just my forgetfulness. I plan to try and post them here once a week (Wednesdays) so that they are not lost into the folder abyss.

Saturday at Bangs Lake

Posted on 3 Jul ’10 by Nikki Murray

One of my aunts was out of town so somehow we found ourselves with nothing to do and no one to see on the Saturday before the 4th. I had thought about trying to extend our hotel stay downtown, but ultimately I am glad I didn’t because the hotel was filled with over 3,000 teenagers who came into town for a student leadership conference. The wait for the hotel elevator was insane and I was very glad we were only on the 6th floor. (Six flights of stairs are better than twelve.)

My Aunt Liz, sweet as she is, asked her friends if we could join them at their lake house in Wauconda for a potluck and fireworks. The hostess graciously said yes, so we met everyone at a stop before heading over. Thankfully, my aunt has kids near my own girls’ ages, otherwise it would have been kind of a boring event for my girls. We had a good time and the girls got to go tubing for their first time. They had a blast.

not ready to get up yet
a sufficient amount of stretching is required
road warrior steals porkpie hat
killing time until we met up with my aunts
weird walgreens restroom
sitting lakeside at my aunt's friend's house... we didn't really know anyone
the cousins patiently waiting to be taken out on the boat for some tubing
relaxing on a breezy summer day by the water
Terry & Lex
fireworks... this was the best shot I had, but thankfully Terry took more
blue one
red one
pow
boom
the end
I would love to see that

Hangin’ in Memphis

Posted on 28 Jun ’10 by Nikki Murray

Memphis is a great city, especially if you love blues. If you’re familiar with New Orleans, Beale Street is like the PG version of Bourbon Street: excellent food and great music but no b00bies. I had a great time, and the absolute best barbecue (and pancakes) that I’ve ever had in my life.

breakfast at Li'l Anthony's
waiting for our food took a while because Dominique made sure it was the FINEST food they were serving
the attempt to eat two pizza-sized pancakes begins
capacity reached
sausage and biscuits
I cannot believe I ate all of this
hmm
something bad happened here
inside the infamous Sun Records building
50's style texting
waiting for the tour to start
the faces that made Sun Records a hit
instrumentals
where the magic happened
an old and out-of-order Pepsi machine on the premises
that guitar is a replica of one of Elvis'
a historical landmark
bbq at Pig's (B.B. King's bbq was better)
the only photo from the Gibson factory because they suck and don't allow photography inside
lunch at B.B. King's blues club
the band
a show I'd love to see
Bangkok Alley. Heh.

My name is Nikki Murray and I’m a mother of two who has been buried neck-deep in code since 1998. I presently work as a user experience and interface designer for a health IT company during the daylight hours. When I’m not freelancing during my off hours, I am prowling around with a camera or recklessly maneuvering needles.
